Learning Beer” is a website to learn about both the liquid and the business of the beer industry. With 15 years in the business, you’ll also learn about me and my experiences in the industry.

New beer-centric business openings are at record numbers. So are closures. There are currently over 900 breweries operating in California alone and over 6,300 breweries across the U.S. These numbers don’t begin to consider imports.

Bars and restaurants open and close every day. There is so much competition in the beverage market and big-budgets dominate focus. Whether you are a brand or an outlet for consumption, getting consumers to know you exist and give you their business is the challenge. It’s not easy, but we can take actionable steps and position ourselves to move in the right direction with the right tools to maximize our potential for success.

That’s where I come in.

For nearly fifteen years I have consulted to small and independent bars, restaurants and producers to clarify their brand identity, then align their identity and business practices to their target demographic to attract and grow their business. This is done through brand evaluation, product selection, online advertising and social media campaigns, customer engagement & experience, community involvement, distribution and more.

If you are a producer, simply producing a magical product is not enough. If you are a retailer, simply getting your hands on some “rare” or otherwise hard-to-come-by product is not enough. You need a game plan for success.

Throughout my career the single, biggest challenge I encounter time and again is clients not knowing who they are and who their customer is. It may seem obvious, but it’s not. Most bars and restaurants don’t have a branding expert on staff. Usually it’s the owner, who is consumed with the daily operations of the business dominating their focus. This often leaves little time for strategic thinking about your brand identity, target demographics and how to make sure that all of your operations support these. Misplaced identity combined with not knowing the right mark to aim at can result in a great business not being effective at best and going out of business at worst.

Don’t be a statistic, be a success story.
